Since ancient times, Kedarnath has served as a pilgrimage site. The Pandava brothers, who appear in the Mahabharata, are credited with building the temple. At a height of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) above sea level, Kedarnath is located 223 kilometers from Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, near to the Mandakini River's source. The township is situated on a desolate stretch of land along the Mandakini River's beaches. It is a particularly appealing site for pilgrimage and trekking because of the surrounding Himalayan landscape and verdant pastures. The beautiful Kedarnath mountain, at 6,940 meters (22,769 feet), the Kedar Dome, at 6,831 meters (22,411 feet), and other peaks of the range may be seen from the town and the Kedarnath Temple. Aside from the Kedarnath Temple, the Bhairavnath Temple is located on the eastern side of town, and the deity of this temple, Bhairavnath, is said to protect the town throughout the winter months.
Kedarnath is a town in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India, that has grown in prominence as a result of the Kedarnath Temple. Rudraprayag, the district headquarters, is about 86 kilometers away. In the Rudraprayag district, it is a Nagar panchayat. The pilgrimage location of Kedarnath is the furthest away of the four Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. It's in the Himalayas, at 3,583 meters (11,755 feet) above sea level, near the Chorabari Glacier, which is the Mandakini river's source. The village is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, the most notable of which is Kedarnath Mountain. Gaurikund, some 16 kilometers away, is the nearest road head.
